Renita Patel, MS, APC

Life can sometimes feel like one big puzzle that we are constantly trying to piece together. We often lose our sense of self as we attempt to create this beautiful picture. But what is behind that social media post? Are you taking care of your well-being while managing the expectations and demands of the world around you?

My goal in working with you is to restore balance to your life and help you feel more grounded! Whether you are struggling with topics like perinatal depression or anxiety, infertility, maternal burnout, systemic generational trauma, culturally specific topics, or marital issues, I am here for you. The struggle can be so behind the scenes, leaving us feeling alone and alienated from others. I am here to be that voice that is reassuring you that you are not alone and more importantly you do not have to do it alone. Let me be here to help you through your journey of self-healing and love.

It is important to me that you find the best therapist for you! I offer free 15-minute consultations for individuals and couples. My therapeutic journey has led me to where I am today so I know how important it is to find someone you vibe with. Being a counselor is my second career after spending 10 years in corporate healthcare jobs, so it is something I am very passionate about. I am a first-generation Indian American. I can understand the complexities that come with being of an immigrant family and balancing two cultures simultaneously. I have always felt a close connection with my culture and want to help those in my community.

I am a mother of two and my journey was not easy. I have always had a strong desire to help women and fellow mothers struggling with fertility, motherhood, and other health concerns. It is a major gap in our country's healthcare system and fertility can sometimes be a taboo topic. I often see women fall through the cracks and not get the emotional support that they need. I want to ensure that women in our community are being seen and heard in their time of need.

Couples therapy offers partners a safe space to help their relationship heal and grow. I work with couples to help them learn more about each other and themselves. Often, we fail to vocalize what we want and need from a partner because we may not know ourselves. Emotionally focused couples therapy will help to conceptualize negative interaction patterns and shed light on the true emotion behind actions and words.

I am laid-back, approachable, often humorous, but mainly kind. I work from a person-centered therapy approach because I believe therapy is your journey, and I am here to help guide you the best I can. I have experience in navigating past and current trauma with different techniques best suited for you and your unique story. I also incorporate techniques from CBT, DBT, and narrative therapy. Together, with a strong therapeutic relationship, we can work to create the you, for you!

I received my M.S. degree from Mercer University and completed my internship at Emory's Wesley Wood Transitions outpatient program. I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor and NBCC certified. I am under the supervision of Kristen Faircloth, LPC, and the direction of Carrie Gensler, LPC.

A little bit more about me

I grew up in Tennessee and completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia. I worked in corporate healthcare for 10 years before leaving to go after something more meaningful! I attended Mercer University for my master's degree in clinical mental health and have never looked back.

Random facts about me: I am first generation Indian American. I can understand the delicate nature of being a child of an immigrant family and the complexities that come with it. My love language is that of Thai food and Coke Zero. I am a big Georgia football fan - Go Dawgs! Lastly, I believe therapy is serious stuff but that doesn't mean we can't incorporate humor and fun too!
